This workshop is open to everyone! If you want to learn a simple shiatsu routine that you can use with your friends and family then this course is for you, there is no prior experience necessary.
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork similar to massage but it works with static pressure to the meridian lines of the body. We will work with the principles of Zen Shiatsu as developed by the Japanese Master, Shizuto Masunaga. The routine you will learn is done on a mat on the floor whilst your recipient remains clothed. Most people experience shiatsu as deeply relaxing and balancing.
Your teacher will be Sophia van Ruth. Sophia has a diploma in Zen Shiatsu and 14 years experience as a shiatsu therapist. She was a teacher for 3 years at the new South Wales School of Therapeutic Massage in Sydney where she delivered a 36 hour shiatsu course as part of a professional massage diploma.
In this 4 hour workshop you will:
- Learn to give a basic shiatsu massage to the back for relaxation and wellbeing.
- Learn to apply pressure to meridian line and pressure points effectively and with little effort.
- Learn when it is safe to give your shiatsu routine and when it might cause injury.
- Give and receive a massage in the workshop.
